Golf can be a pretty frustrating game at the best of times, but at
Francistown Golf Club in Botswana, the lack of grass is the biggest
problem.

You are all familiar with some formats so I will get the simple ones over with first:
- Strokeplay
is just that, you count every stoke you make and end up with a gross
total. Professional tournaments and the club’s monthly medal are played
this way. Its you against the rest of the field.

It
was Compleat Golfer that first published a ranking of South Africa’s
top golf courses and, as expected, this exercise turned out to be
highly controversial – and it remains so. The system we used to rank
courses remained unchanged – until this year, when, after much
consideration and debate, we decided that our method was in need of a
major redesign. Just like golf courses, our ranking system needs to
keep pace with a changing environment – and we believe that what we
have devised adequately fulfils modern requirements.
