Our 6 night Dublin - North East Ireland golf package, which includes the best of
each region and makes for a superb two centre trip.
The first hotel we've chosen, The Grand
Malahide, is a really charming four star venue, set in one of the most
delightful harbour towns in all of Ireland. Full of restaurants and cafes, this
is a lovely place for them to unwind and stroll around its bustling harbour. To
get to Dublin itself, you can just hop on the regular DART train service, which
takes just 20 minutes, so your clients can go in and out as often as they
like.
While staying here, we have got some superb golf lined up - playing 3 Championship links courses, as good as any you'll find in the whole of Ireland (see descriptions below). These include The Island, which is one of our favourite Irish courses, very friendly club and some wonderful holes; this is followed by the equally impressive Bernard Langer-designed Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links - there are two great links courses in Portmarnock, but we've picked the Hotel Links, as it's much friendlier and about 80 Euros cheaper per person !
Your 3rd game is at the delightful Ardglass course. This is a course to savour with some outstanding holes. Two of the Par 3's and the Par 5 11th require a carry across the coastline and cliffs tops of the Irish Sea and rank among the best holes in Ireland. The view from the elevated 12th tee, with the backdrop of the Irish Sea and Mourne Mountains is to die for.
After playing at Ardglass, you'd continue north to the excellent Bayview Hotel in the charming coastal village of Portballintrae. Some of the finest coastal scenery in Ireland is to be found along the North Antrim Coast. Pretty harbours, the unbelievable rope bridge at Carrick-a-rede, the Glens of Antrim, the World's oldest licensed whiskey distillery at Bushmills and best of all, the 'Eighth Wonder of the World' - the Giants Causeway all contribute to what is definitely an unforgettable experience.
As for the golf - this is as good as it gets in terms of links golf - Portstewart is a gem of a links, set amongst rolling sand dunes, with sweeping views towards the blue Donegal hills and the Atlantic ocean. Your final game is at the hugely impressive Royal Portrush, the only club outside Britain to host The Open Championship in 1951.
Royal Portrush Golf Club is on everyone's list of top golf courses in Ireland and is often included in lists of the top golf courses in the world. As Ryder Cup star Darren Clarke recently said "Royal Portrush is now rated to be in the top 12 golf courses in the world and should, indeed, be number one.''
On the transportation, we would recommend car rental - beauty of staying at The Grand in Malahide is that you won't need to drive into Dublin itself, and finding Malahide and the surrounding golf courses is very straightforward. Then, you can simply follow the motorway north past Belfast till you get to the Antrim coast and again, the distances from either hotel here to the golf courses are very easy.
This wonderful tour, combining the best of Ireland's capital and the wondrous Antrim coast is one of our all-time favourites. I've included links to the hotels, sightseeing and golf courses below:
